Our Season 3 announcement is fast approaching (details coming soon) and we are looking for directors!

Our season is almost set but before we announce we want some awesome directors who are gonna bring it.

Opportunities are currently available for 2 full-length productions, each show will have a 3-week run and go up in either September or December.

Please send questions and your resume to direct@glassmindtheatre.com, no later than February 20th.

When we get your resume, we’ll send you info regarding the individual productions, a script, and the required Production Proposal Form. Production proposals will be due by March 9, 2012.

We’ll be auditioning for our Brainstorm Festival, as well as keeping an eye out for Season 3. If you’re an actor (regardless of age, race or sex), we want to see you strut your stuff for us.

Auditions:

We are requiring 1-2 minute comedic or dramatic monologue that showcases you in your best light.

But, in reality, I work with an incredible art that allows me to infuse it with that love of visual storytelling. And it’s a big foundation of Glass Mind, and what I envision for the company.

Coming up in December is our premiere of an original work from company member Sarah Ford Gorman (AKA “Flash” – totally a comic throwback in its own right). And Underneath The Moon is developing itself as a hybrid one-act, with these moments of natural dialogue being interspersed with moments of visual storytelling. We’re choosing to go in the route of a mix of illustrations and live photos that will be projected in tandem with the live action.

This harks back to one of our first pieces we produced. In 2010 we introduced Carolyn Raship’s Antarctica to a Baltimore audience.

My concept for this was that Magda and Winnie – the two protagonists – were giving a class presentation without having any sort of empirical data to back anything up. So they presented the story theatrically, and provided vivid drawings to help prove that they *really, really* went on this kick-ass trip to Antarctica in order to become the first girls to reach the True Polar South.

The idea for Moon is a bit different, but the need for a visual medium is vital. We follow Olivia, a woman who wants very badly to have a child, and this stems back to both her own childhood and the way her own marriage has developed.

Rather than have Olivia tend to tedious moments of dialogue to give us perspective and exposition, Flash decided to allow us into Olivia’s head. She has an intensely rich imagination that manifests a very skewed version of reality – we see moments from her past (as well as from her relationship with her husband, Josh) that transform from scrapbook photos into illustrated depictions of fantasy. Suddenly, we ask ourselves if we trust her story.

I’ll be doing video duty on this show, and both Lynn (the director) and myself are incredibly excited to be working with Justin Johnson on illustrations. If his name sounds familiar – good! He’s a really stellar guy who performed in Please Flag With Care last year, and is an incredibly funny and talented actor in the B-More/DC Metro area.

In directing our piece in March, Adapting Cinderella, I’m currently doing an abundance of research of images, photos, and illustrations, and I’ve been inspired to draw out moments that I want to eventually bring to life on stage. In a way, I’m tempted to bring a storybook of my own to the first rehearsal, and give my awesome cast of 12 (one of our biggest ensembles yet!) the chance to dig their teeth in.

Well, glad you caught it, and even more glad that you’re here checking it out! A new design infiltrated our website like a ninja this week, and made things a lot friendlier for both our audience members and for us as a company. I think this new look and feel fits who we are in a great way.

There are gonna be some tweaks here and there as we go – we have plans to really integrate Eventbrite into our site so that it’s extremely simple and quick to pick up tickets to our shows. Plus we’ll be updating some of the pages and moving some older content (such as a production history area where you can easily check out photos from old shows…ya know, in case you like that sort of thing).

Plus thanks to company photographer/former company member Britt Olsen-Ecker whose photos we have featured on many parts of the site. Kevin Griffin Moreno, Nick Hood and Phil Laubner have also contributed to our library of photographs and we will be featuring some of their photos too. Our photographers have given us amazing stuff to work with, so we always show off their stuff when we can.
